This
rare and increasingly sought-after Toyota Land Cruiser BJ73 is presented here in
desirable left-hand drive configuration and finished in classic black with a
contrasting grey interior. This 1990 example is powered by a robust 2,499cc
six-cylinder diesel engine paired with a manual transmission, embodying the
legendary durability and go-anywhere capability that has defined the Land
Cruiser name for decades.
Imported to the UK in
October 2021, this BJ73 has had just two former keepers since its arrival and
has been in current ownership since June 2023. The odometer currently displays
323,680 kilometres, a figure entirely in keeping with the model’s reputation for
longevity when properly maintained. Reassuringly, the vehicle benefits from an
MOT valid until June 2026 with no advisories recorded.
Over the course of 2023 to 2025, the current owner has undertaken an
extensive and methodical programme of refurbishment and maintenance, supported
by invoices and scheduled workshop visits. The interior has been comprehensively
refreshed, with the cabin stripped and insulated, new headlining and roof boards
fitted, fresh carpeting and underlay installed, and all seats professionally
retrimmed. Attention has also been given to structural and safety elements,
including reinforced seatbelt anchor points.
Mechanically, the fuel system has been overhauled with replacement of
the main rotary fuel pump, fuel tank, lines, filters, and associated components,
while the injectors have been reconditioned and the sender unit repaired. The
intake and exhaust systems have been checked and refreshed where necessary to
ensure optimal performance. Electrical reliability has been addressed through a
new battery, rewiring of the starting and charging systems, and replacement glow
plugs with an updated relay configuration.
The
braking system has been comprehensively renewed, including front and rear
components, master cylinders, servo, and copper brake lines, accompanied by a
full fluid service. The transmission and driveline have also received
significant attention, with fresh oils throughout, renewed wheel bearings, and
differential work carried out on both axles. Steering components, including drag
link arms and track rod ends, have been replaced and the alignment
professionally set.
Externally, the vehicle
presents very well following thorough preparation and refinishing work,
including underside treatment of both body and chassis with protective coatings,
as well as polishing and sealing of exterior surfaces. Additional details such
as under-bonnet sound deadening further enhance refinement. The wheels have been
refurbished and are fitted with a full set of new tyres, complemented by new
wheel nuts and hub caps.
Engine maintenance
includes fresh oil and filter changes, replacement of key gaskets, and renewal
of breather components, contributing to a well-sorted and dependable power unit.
A substantial photographic record accompanies the vehicle, documenting the work
undertaken and underscoring the level of care invested.
Demonstrating its usability, the Land Cruiser was driven over 100
miles to the sale location, where it performed exactly as expected, starting
readily and driving well during on-site assessment. This is a rare opportunity
to acquire a thoroughly sorted example of a classic utility 4x4, combining
iconic design, proven engineering, and significant recent expenditure, making it
equally suited to continued use, collection, or light adventure
duties.
Included with the sale is a USB stick
containing service manuals.
