Description
Built in
1999/2000; quite possibly goes better than an original with it’s XR4i engine;
the vendor tells us the performance is best described as "more than
adequate"
This Car was built
from components by the owner/driver during 1999/2000. The mechanical parts
started life in a Ford Sierra XR4i which was completely stripped down and the
body parts discarded. The engine is a 2.8 litre V6 which has had certain
modifications to the cooling and injection system to make it fit into the
available under-bonnet space.
It has the added
advantage that it should not suffer from rust at any time in its
life.
The gearbox is a 5-speed Ford unit mated to
a limited-slip differential. The rear drive shafts were modified to take drum
instead of disc brakes (discs at the front though). The front and rear
suspensions are coil/over shock set-ups. The chassis is spaceframe which was
galvanised prior to construction commencing. The body is fibreglass with the
body tub being in one piece. The screen and surround are Healey items. It is
dimensionally accurate to the original (even the ground
clearance!!).
All the bright work is genuine
Austin Healey. The colour is Healey ice blue (sometime incorporating a cream
panel on the originals). The interior was trimmed at Standish Car Trim and the
dashboard made by the previous owner.
“A satisfactory car both to build, own and drive and a 'showstopper'
wherever it goes”, says our vendor.
