Exceptionally clean, tidy and original; recently recommissioned
following 19 years in storage; new brake discs, radiator and tyres; stainless
steel exhaust; one of only 6,000 made; one for the Fast Ford
collector
The MkV Escort RS2000 was launched in
1991 and was built as a successor to the legendary MkI and MkII
Escorts of the 1970s, Ford marketing the car under the slogan: ‘The Champ is
Back’.
Sharing the same basic bodyshell as the
standard MkV, the RS2000 had additional body colour spoilers, distinctive power
bulges in the bonnet and special 15” alloy wheels to set it apart from the less
sporting models.
Power came from a fuel-injected
2-litre DOHC 16-valve engine that produced 150bhp. Mated to a beefed-up 5-speed
gearbox, it could launch the car to 60mph in 8.0 seconds with a top speed of
130mph.
Other features included uprated ABS
brakes; uprated suspension; halogen headlights; power steering; glass sunroof;
electric windows and a lovely Recaro sports interior. Three standard colours
were available, Diamond White, Radiant Red and Black, all with grey interior
trim. Only 6,000 were made, along with another 500 four-wheel-drive versions,
before production came to an end in 1996.
Supplied new by Evans Halshaw of Cardiff in March 1993, this Radiant
Red RS2000 comes with no early history but it must have led a very easy life
because it is in remarkably good and original condition today.
The V5C records six former keepers, the fifth of
whom owned it for almost 20 years, according to HPI (1999 – 2019). From 2006 –
2025 it was off the road and must have been carefully stored, judging by the
good state of preservation.
The current
registered keeper acquired the car in 2019 and in June this year it was
professionally recommissioned by Bridge Street Garage of Bridgend at a cost of
£1,475 (invoice on file). This included a full service, new brake discs and pads
all round, new handbrake cables and a new radiator.
We are told that various other jobs were also carried out for which
there are no invoices, including all five wheels diamond cut and refurbished, a
new set of tyres, and a new idle control valve. A replacement speedo was also
fitted so the true mileage is not known. A Scorpion stainless steel exhaust
system has also been fitted at some point.
As
you can see in the photos, this RS2000 looks exceptionally clean, tidy and
original and still retains its original Evans Halshaw number plates and dealer
sticker in the rear window. The original handbooks are also present along with
an original RS2000 sales brochure.
Flying
through its MOT in June this year with no advisories recorded, it is well
worth a look at the guide price suggested so do come and see it for
yourselves.
