All-aluminium unibody; fast and frugal twin-turbo diesel; 93,600
miles; just serviced including cambelt and four new tyres; advisory-free MOT;
driven over 90 miles to the sale; impressive condition for the
year/mileage
Making its debut at the 2002
Paris Motor Show, the X350 version of the Jaguar XJ luxury saloon was one of the
first production cars to feature a full aluminium unibody chassis and bodywork
which made it 40% lighter and 50% stiffer than its X308 predecessor.
Another innovative feature was the CATS adaptive suspension system
which automatically tuned the damper settings to optimize the ride and handling
dynamics under varying road and driving conditions, with automatic four-wheel
self-levelling. It also bristled with advanced electronic driver aids to make
the car as safe, stable and luxurious as anything the Germans could offer in the
same price bracket.
First registered in July 2006,
this XJ is the post-2005 X356 facelift model with various styling tweaks and
updated electronics. It is powered by the 2.7 V6 twin-turbo diesel engine
producing 205bhp and 321lb/ft mated to 6-speed automatic transmission which made
it good for 0-60mph in 7.8 seconds with a top speed of 140mph and 35mpg
economy.
This engine was so highly
rated for its blend of performance, refinement and economy that it accounted for
75% of sales. In a November 2008 Top Gear episode, Jeremy Clarkson famously
drove a 2.7 TDVI from Basel to Blackpool on a single tank of fuel, describing
the car as ‘astonishing’.
This TDVI has covered 93,628
miles to date in the hands of four owners, the second of whom kept it from 2011
– 2018 during which time it was maintained by Jaguar main agents Grange Motors
of Essex, a print-out showing that they serviced it three times: March 2012 at
65,171 miles; March 2013 at 71,000 miles (including cambelt) and March 2014 at
79,237 miles (see photos).
There is an invoice for
another service by Cardiff Garage in August 2024 at 92,588 miles which included
a new cambelt, new water pump, new alternator, four new tyres and four-wheel
alignment. It has covered just over 1,000 miles
since.
It is packed with all the
usual XJ Executive luxuries including Silver Platinum Metallic paintwork and a
full black leather interior with burr walnut trim. Most of the handbooks are
present apart from the service book.
Driven almost 100 miles to the
sale, we are told that it drives “like the day it left the factory”, with an MOT
until August 2026 with no advisories recorded.
As you can see in
the photos, this Jaguar is impressively clean and tidy for its year/mileage and
has been starting promptly and driving very nicely as we have moved it around on
site, with no warning lights.
