Rare 5-speed manual; super condition for its year/mileage; 89,800
miles with 10 service stamps and tons of bills; advisory-free MOT; a worthy
successor to the classic MkII 3.8 of the Sixties
Styled by Jeff
Lawson and backed by the deep pockets of Ford, the S-Type marked a return to
form by Jaguar and was widely praised for its classic styling, quality interior,
excellent ride and superb refinement.
Launched
at the 1998 Birmingham Motor Show, five different petrol engines were offered
from a 2.5 V6 to a 4.2 V8 plus a 2.7 V6 diesel version, the vast majority with
6-speed automatic transmission but from 2003 a Getrag 5-speed manual gearbox was
available as an option.
Singled out for
particular praise was the rare 3.0 V6 Sport Manual version (as here) which was
widely seen as the spiritual successor to the legendary Jaguar MkII 3.8 MOD of
the Sixties. With 240bhp on tap, it could sprint to 60mph in 7.5 seconds with a
top speed of 145mph, the Sport package adding firmer suspension, bigger brakes
and larger alloy wheels for a more athletic ride and handling dynamic.
The S-Type remained in production until it was
replaced by the XF in 2007, with a facelift in 2003 which incorporated various
styling tweaks and an aluminium bonnet for the more sporting
models.
First registered in September 2004, this
post-facelift 3.0 V6 Sport Manual has covered 89,816 miles to date in the hands
of five owners and comes with an excellent service history comprising 10 stamps
in the book, the last in August this year at 89,780 miles, all but the last two
at Jaguar main agents (see photos).
It also
comes with a large file of invoices for other upkeep and new parts fitted.
Recent expenditure of note includes:

The spec includes: 5-speed Getrag manual short shift gearbox;
dechromed black pack exterior; black leather interior with electric memory
seats, multi-function steering wheel, cruise control, Bluetooth
etc.
As you can see in the photos, this pampered
Jaguar looks to be in great shape for its year/mileage and we are told that it
drives as well as it looks. Supplied with all its original handbooks, it has an
MOT until September 2026 with no advisories recorded.
A proper Modern Classic and a worthy successor to the much-loved MkII
3.8, this rare and sporting manual S-Type has been starting promptly and running
well as we have moved it around on site.
