Only three
recorded owners from new; fully restored 1955 Series 1 86in; includes a rare
tool kit; sourced parts from all around the world trying to keep originality
where possible
This fully restored 1955
Series I Land Rover, features the 86in chassis and 2.0-litre engine, which seems
in great order. It has four new tyres, and both 4WD and 2WD systems
function.
This is a rare matching numbers
vehicle, complete with a new canvas hood and two keys. It also includes a rare
tool kit and fully refurbished green trimmed seats, which still have the
protective covers on. Being tax and MOT exempt, the overall condition of this
Land Rover is considered even better than when it was new.
With only three owners from new, our vendor purchased the car from a
farm auction some time ago as a bit of a project. It had been owned by
a doctor who had it for winter use at his rural practice. Our vendor
has owned the car for the last seven years and it is now showing only 30,700 miles, which
he believes to be correct but cannot be proved.
A
top-level restoration was carried out both inside and out, being completely
stripped down to the original chassis, with all mechanical components
refurbished and rebuilt. To maintain complete originality, a bulkhead from a
South African vehicle was sourced to ensure the correct pressed circles on both
sides were retained — a testament to the level of detail and care taken during
the restoration.
The car starts at the touch of
a button and drives exactly as it should. It would be pretty tricky to find a
cleaner, better-presented example on the market today.
