16ft Speed boat and
trailer; Mercury 115hp 2-stroke; ready to enjoy
The 1977 Avenger 16 speed
boat paired with a Mercury 115hp 2-stroke outboard was a classic setup for
spirited freshwater cruising and water sports. The Avenger 16 featured a sleek
fiberglass hull with a deep-V design, offering stability and agility at speed.
With the lightweight and potent Mercury 115—part of the renowned “Tower of
Power” inline-six series—it delivered impressive acceleration and top-end
performance, often exceeding 50 mph depending on load and prop setup. The
2-stroke engine’s distinctive scream and oil-mixed fuel were hallmarks of the
era. This combo remains a nostalgic favourite among vintage boat enthusiasts for
its simplicity and thrill.
This
setup delivers thrilling performance and vintage charm and comes complete with a
functional trailer and a pair of period water skis. The vendor purchased the
boat from a private collection where it had been in long-term ownership and used
primarily for freshwater water skiing.
At the end of last season, it
received a new battery, replacement input shaft seals, a new water pump housing,
and a fresh impeller. The boat features key start/stop ignition, original MPH
and knots gauges, a classic three-spoke helm, twin fuel tanks stowed under the
rear seats, and a motor trim switch located at the helm.
The trailer has
new tyres and the wheel bearings have just been replaced prior to towing the
boat to the sale, though it would benefit from a fresh coat of paint and a new
light board to brighten it up.
It's been used regularly
throughout August, and ready to enjoy!
