Rare Jetta
GTI 8V Mk2; MOTd through to January 2027 showing no advisories; seems well
maintained by the current vendor
A rare
opportunity to own a late-80s icon, this 1989 Volkswagen Jetta GTI 8V presents
as a genuine modern classic with character, history, and continual upkeep.
Finished in Jade Green Metallic with a well-preserved grey velour cloth
interior, this example captures the unmistakable charm of Volkswagen’s golden
GTI era while remaining usable and enjoyable today.
First registered in September 1989, this 1.8-litre petrol, 5-speed
manual Jetta has covered 136,391 miles and has been in current ownership since
December 2021. It has had 12 former keepers over its lifetime and comes with a
solid history file including 10 service stamps, 10 previous MOT certificates,
invoices, handbook, and locking wheel nut.
The
car benefits from a long MOT through to January 2027 (with no
advisories) and has seen consistent maintenance and sympathetic
improvements under current ownership.
Upon purchase in December 2021, it
received a full service, cambelt replacement, and new battery. An electrical
drain was quickly diagnosed and resolved by removing an aftermarket CD player.
Since then, the car has been maintained with attention to both mechanical
reliability and cosmetic presentation.
Work
carried out includes replacement of the rear offside door handle, updated wing
indicator lenses, and professional bodywork touch-ups to the bonnet and boot,
followed by further light restoration and wheel refurbishment. The dashboard
clocks have been upgraded with LED lighting for improved visibility while
retaining a period feel. In September 2023, the car received four new tyres
alongside an MOT.
More recent maintenance
includes a service in May 2024, replacement of the fuel line in July 2024, and
continued upkeep into 2025 with MOT testing, a new front grille fitted in
November, and comprehensive brake work in December including new discs and pads
front and rear, replacement rear brake pipes, and fresh brake
fluid.
The car has been driven over 40 miles to
site and performs as expected, starting, stopping, and driving, making it a
usable classic that can be enjoyed immediately or further
enhanced.
This is a very rare opportunity to
acquire an increasingly hard-to-find Mk2-era GTI, especially in Jetta form,
offering a distinctive alternative to the more common Golf while sharing the
same engaging driving experience and retro appeal.
