Just two owners from new; showing just 37,011
miles; last of the carbureted R1 models; unmolested R1 from the golden era;
increasingly hard to find and all the more appealing for
it
Here we
have a very nice, low-owner Yamaha YZF-R1, finished in the iconic Metallic
Blue and first registered in March 2001, meaning it has now just celebrated its
25th birthday. The vendor advises that the machine has had only two owners from
new, a detail fully supported by the paperwork. Both owners were professional
Mercedes technicians, each with an eye for quality — indeed, the second owner persuaded
the first to sell the bike back to him in 2004, such was his admiration for
it.
Now showing
just 37,011 miles, the R1 was last on the road in 2019 and has since been
dry-stored in a private collection. As
the last of the carbureted R1 models, this generation is particularly sought
after, its 1000cc engine producing a quoted 147bhp and delivering the raw,
analogue performance that made the early R1s legends of the superbike world. A
new battery has been fitted, and the bike is starting and running on the button
on site.
It
comes with two sets of keys, pillion seat, a maintenance and repair manual,
Datatool tags, and a selection of bagged spares including a temperature sensor
and brake-light switch. Altogether, this is a
very clean and honest example of a truly legendary motorcycle, ideal for
collectors and enthusiasts of early Yamaha R1 models.
A well-kept, low-owner, unmolested R1 from the golden
era — increasingly hard to find and all
the more appealing for it.
