Charming 1955 Ford Pop; showing just 62,588
miles; the 103E model easily identified by its smaller headlamps, painted
bumpers and steel dashboard, the Popular has become a much-loved survivor of 1950s British
motoring
Here we have a charming 1955 Ford Popular,
finished in a gentle shade of pale green and powered by its faithful 1,172cc
side-valve engine. Originally the
cheapest car Ford produced in its day, the 103E Popular was designed to offer
simple, affordable motoring to post-war Britain. In essence, the 103E is
a pared-back E494A Anglia, fitted with the
10HP engine from the E493A Prefect and stripped to the essentials to keep costs
down.
Easily
identified by its smaller headlamps, painted bumpers and steel dashboard, the
Popular has become a much-loved survivor of 1950s British
motoring. This example wears its years with quiet pride and presents as an
honest, appealing car that has clearly been cared for over the decades. The
current V5C shows only five former keepers, which is always pleasing to see on a
car of this age.
The history file includes the V5C, nine old
MOTs, a selection of photographs, a wiring diagram, and various invoices, giving
a reassuring sense of long-term maintenance and stewardship.
The odometer shows 62,588 miles, a believable figure for a car that has led a
gentle and steady life.
Now offered for sale after many years of dry
storage, presented in starting and running condition, exactly as seen in the
images and video. The file also includes a set of historic restoration
photographs, offering a pleasing glimpse into the work carried out in years past
and adding further depth to its story.
A wonderfully honest survivor of Ford’s most
accessible post-war model, characterful and full of
charm.
