Restored and repainted in 2023; many new parts fitted including five
new tyres; recent thorough service; electronic ignition; driven 40 miles to the
sale; a freshly rejuvenated MG, ready to enjoy
As the Heritage
Certificate confirms, this MGB GT left the works in June 1978 and was originally
Leyland White with an Orange and Brown interior, fitted with an overdrive
gearbox and Rostyle wheels. Supplied new via Lookers Ltd of Bradford, it
was first registered in February 1979.
A note on
file states that it was restored in the past, including new front wings, new
bonnet, new door skins and new sills. HPI records a colour change from grey to
green in 1994 so that is most likely when the work was carried out.
There are lots of bills from 2022 onwards to
show upkeep and improvements, including another body restoration and a repaint
in the current Mitsubishi Jupiter Green in December 2022.
Other work in
2023 includes new door cards; new headlining; new front and rear screen rubbers;
new windscreen; new door and window rubbers; electronic ignition fitted; new
rocker shaft assembly; carbs rebuilt plus numerous other items detailed in
copious invoices. A new speedo was also fitted and now shows 1,908 miles which
is the distance covered in the last four years.
Our vendor, a trained mechanic with a lifetime’s experience of
tinkering with old cars, acquired the MG via Brightwells in April last year and
has improved it still further, a quick tot-up of the bills showing that he has
spent over £1,000 on new parts alone.
Highlights
include: five new tyres; brakes overhauled with new master cylinder, brake pads
and hoses; hi-torque starter motor; fuel pressure regulator; radiator; electric
radiator fan; coolant hoses; distributor; spark plugs; coil; air and oil
filters; Yuasa 12v battery plus much else besides.
An owner’s handbook is also present, along with 11 old MOTs from 1999
– 2017 plus a lubrication chart and wiring diagrams.
As you can see in the photos, this thoroughly rejuvenated GT is in
great shape for a 48-year-old and has been starting promptly and running sweetly
on site, with healthy 60psi oil pressure.
Driven
some 40 miles to the sale, it is only reluctantly for sale due to the advancing
years of the owner and is ready for a new owner to enjoy right
away.
