Desirable
‘Thor’ V8; Recent service and alignment; Coil Spring
conversion
First registered in 2000, this
late-model P38 Range Rover comes in top-spec Vogue trim and is powered by the
4.6-litre Thor V8 with Bosch engine management – the most refined iteration of
the second-generation Range Rover. Finished in Java Black with contrasting cream
and red piping, it remains a handsome and well-presented example of the
breed.
This P38 has been converted from air
suspension to conventional coil springs, eliminating the usual EAS concerns
while maintaining a composed ride. The springs appear to have been fitted
recently, and the car sits evenly on a matching set of Nexen N Fera RU1 SUV
tyres, one of which is brand new. It benefits from a recent engine service (oil,
filters, spark plugs) and alignment, with invoices to confirm, along with a tow
bar and electrics, air conditioning, heated seats, and a functioning tilt/slide
sunroof.
Although much of the original service
history was mislaid by a previous keeper, documentation shows the car had an
extended warranty when new through Land Rover Cheltenham, suggesting attentive
early care. More recently, the vendor has carried out basic servicing using
Britpart components, while the front brake callipers appear to have been renewed
in the not-too-distant past.
The Java Black paint
retains a good shine and presents smartly overall, with only light age-related
marks. The silver alloy wheels are tidy with new centre caps and minimal
curbing. Inside, the leather remains supple and free from major wear or tears,
the veneers are glossy, and the headlining is clean with minimal sagging towards
the rear – common on these cars.
A nicely
specified and very usable P38, offering the refinement of the later Thor engine
combined with the reliability of coil suspension – a lot of Range Rover for the
money.
