Only 53,400 miles with 12 Volvo service stamps; four owners; loads of
bills; heated seats; Volvo Assistance Policy; a pampered example with Swedish
build quality
Launched in 2001
to take on rivals like the BMW E46 3 Series and the Mercedes C Class, the Volvo
S60 had a striking ‘organic’ design which made it highly aerodynamic with a drag
coefficient of just 0.28 Cd. Bristling with all the usual Volvo safety features,
it was face-lifted for the 2008 model year with body-colour bumpers and side
strips and an improved interior.
Supplied new by
Johnsons Volvo of Solihull in September 2008, this face-lift S60 has the 2.0
Turbo inline five-cylinder petrol engine producing 177bhp and 240Nm mated to
5-speed automatic transmission which made it good for 0-60mph in 9.5 seconds
with a top speed of 140mph and 30mpg economy.
The Lux trim includes leather upholstery and walnut inserts on the
dash and door trims. Other equipment includes dual zone climate control with air
con; heated front seats with electric memory function; fold-down rear seats for
load carrying; cruise control; parking sensors; tinted glass; Dolby
Surround Sound stereo system and 17” alloy wheels. It also has a tow bar which
was fitted last year.
It has covered 55,365 miles
to date in the hands of four owners, the first and second of whom kept it for
almost 10 years each. It has an excellent service history including 12 stamps in
the book, all by main agents, the last in April 2024 at 44,857 miles (see
photos).
There are also many invoices to document the servicing and any
additional work carried out or new parts fitted, including new front brake discs
and pads in 2022. In 2012 it was also treated to a Paint and Fabric Protection
System with a six-year guarantee which seems to have done its job well.
Our vendor is a long-standing Brightwells client
with a collection of classic cars and he bought this Volvo in March last
year when his modern run-about, a Land Rover Discovery, blew its engine just
before he was due to leave on a long Continental trip. To make sure the Volvo
was in tip-top order for the journey, he sent it to Volvo agent Paul Rigby of
Stourbridge for a check-over and service before he left
home.
It then completed a 3,000-mile trip around
Germany and into Poland, the vendor reporting that it proved utterly reliable,
supremely comfortable and much quicker and more fun to drive than his Discovery.
In May this year it went back to Paul Rigby for
another check-over and an MOT, our vendor also taking out a Volvo Assistance
Policy which covers the car for 12 months home and roadside breakdown cover
which is transferable to the next owner. Although not specifically mentioned on
the invoice, we are told that it was also serviced at the same time and it has
only covered 2,600 miles since.
As you
can see in the photos, this S60 is in super condition for its year/mileage, the
only real blemsh we noted being the trim on the windscreen pillars
which has come unstuck - an easy enough fix. Supplied with an MOT
until May 2026 with just one minor advisory (central exhaust mounting
defective), it has been starting instantly and driving beautifully as we
have moved it around on site, with no warning lights and a remarkably hushed
interior.
We are big Volvo fans here at
Brightwells and this well-maintained low-mileage cracker looks mighty tempting
at the modest guide price suggested. You can feel the build quality through the
seat of your pants, the heater works brilliantly, as do the heated seats, and
those fold-down rear seats make it super-practical. A finer way to get
around over the coming winter months is hard to imagine at the modest guide
price suggested.
