Very rare
1977 BMW 633 CSi manual; displaying 87,506 miles; off the road since 2005 with a
brief return to road worthiness in 2019; we have had the car running since being
on site; long family ownership; The private plate of LJS45 is included with the
car
First registered in January 1977, this
highly desirable BMW 633 CSi presents a rare opportunity to acquire an early
example of BMW's iconic E24 grand tourer, offered with exceptional long-term
ownership history and considerable recommissioning
potential.
Finished in blue and powered by the
smooth and capable 3,295cc straight-six engine paired with a manual
transmission, this 633 CSi has had just four former keepers.
Remarkably, the car has effectively remained within the same family
for the majority of its life. We understand it was originally used as a
demonstrator by the supplying BMW dealer before being sold to the managing
director of a large company. The vehicle was subsequently passed to one of the
company's drivers, who became particularly fond of the car. In 1985, he
purchased the BMW from the company and retained ownership for the next 40 years.
Following his passing in October 2025, ownership transferred to his wife, who is
the current vendor.
Displaying 87,506 miles on
the odometer, this mileage cannot be warranted; however, based on the vehicle's
history and overall presentation, there is no reason to believe it is incorrect.
The accompanying service book contains stamped service history up until the
mid-1980s, and the original handbooks are included within the
sale.
The vehicle was taken off the road in 2005
and has remained in dry storage for almost all of the time since. According to
the family, it was briefly returned to the road in approximately 2019 and was in
running order. However, having been largely unused for many years, prospective
purchasers are strongly advised that a full recommissioning programme should be
undertaken before any return to regular road use.
Since arriving on site, we have managed to start the car with very
little intervention, and it runs under its own power. Please see the
accompanying video within the listing.
An
interesting feature of this example is the rear spoiler, which is sourced from a
later BMW 635 CSi rather than being the original 633 CSi item. The owner admired
the appearance of the later cars and therefore ordered the spoiler directly from
BMW, complete with the correct factory-supplied badging.
With its exceptional long-term ownership history, desirable manual
gearbox, and lengthy period of dry storage, this BMW 633 CSi represents an
exciting restoration and recommissioning opportunity. Early E24 models continue
to gain appreciation among collectors, making this an appealing prospect for BMW
enthusiasts seeking a rewarding project with excellent
provenance.
