This is an increasingly rare opportunity to acquire an early example of Ford's iconic Mk3 Escort XR3i.

First registered in August 1983, this early-production car is finished in Sunburst Red with a well-preserved original XR3i cloth interior and factory sunroof. Representing the golden era of affordable performance hatchbacks, the XR3i remains highly sought after by Ford enthusiasts and collectors alike.

Unlike many surviving examples, this XR3i retains its original 1,597cc CVH engine and desirable 5-speed manual gearbox, remaining remarkably true to its factory specification. Further period features include an Alpine stereo system with rear parcel shelf speakers, complemented by a nostalgic Pepe keyring that perfectly captures the spirit of the 1980s.

The Escort was reportedly taken off the road in approximately 1995 to undergo welding work to the underside together with a general refurbishment programme. As is often the case with long-term projects, the restoration remained unfinished until 2019, when the vehicle was acquired and carefully reassembled with the intention of returning it to regular use.   The current vendor has owned the car since March 2022 but, due to family and other commitments, has been unable to devote the time required to complete the recommissioning process. Consequently, the decision has been made to offer the car for sale, allowing a new custodian the opportunity to realise its full potential.

The odometer currently displays approximately 80,000 miles, a figure believed to be genuine given the extensive period during which the vehicle remained off the road. The car has had six former keepers and is registered as both tax and MOT exempt.

Mechanically, the XR3i starts readily, with the vendor reporting that the engine runs quietly. The vehicle has been driven on private property for photographic and video purposes and is described as driving, stopping and starting as expected, although it has not been subjected to extended road use.

Early, unmodified XR3is have become increasingly difficult to source, particularly examples retaining their original drivetrain and factory specification.
