Just three owners in the last 36 years; lots of history; recent major
service and new soft top; electronic ignition; overdrive; alloys;
driven over 80 miles to the auction; a smart MGB, ready to
enjoy
First registered in January 1973,
this MGB Roadster has had just three owners in the last 36 years, our vendor
acquiring the car in early 2024 from a Bath gent who had owned it for 13 years,
the previous owner being a gent in Bristol who bought in in 1990 and kept it for
20 years.
There are 22 old MOTs which show that the car has only covered some
25,200 miles since 1990, the odometer currently showing 35,924 miles. It comes
with a large file of invoices back to the late-1980s to show regular upkeep and
new parts fitted, including a full repaint in 2021, although it never seems to
have needed much other than routine service items.
Our vendor, a member of
the MG Car Club, has looked after the car assiduously during his two-year
ownership. When he acquired the car he had it checked over by Beech Hill Garage
of Oxford who gave it a tune-up and checked the compressions which were all
found to be healthy (160/155/160/162), the odometer at this point showing 33,717
miles. They also fitted a new vinyl soft top, seals and header rail, the bill
for this lot coming to £1,028.
In July 2025 it was treated to a
full service by Kennington Motors of Oxford which included a full brake overhaul
with new front calipers, new Mintex Performance front pads and new braided hoses
front and rear. The engine was also flushed; the carbs overhauled; the
distributor was replaced with a CSI electronic unit; new track rod ends were
fitted plus all the usual service items, the bill for this lot coming to
£2,209.
Most recently, in March this year Kennington also sourced and fitted
a new Powerlite Alternator which cost £238.
We are told that the car drives
as well as it looks, with the overdrive working as it should. It has been
starting promptly and running very nicely as we have moved it around on site,
with healthy 60psi oil pressure.
As you can see in the photos,
this MGB looks reassuringly straight and solid, both above and below, with good
panel gaps, nice shiny paintwork and chrome and a sporty set of Minilite-style
alloy wheels. The interior is also clean and tidy with blue leather seats,
Mota-Lita steering wheel and a switch for the Kenlowe fan. A tonneau cover and
hood cover are included, along with a parts catalogue and a workshop
manual.
Driven some 80 miles to the sale, this pretty MGB will be a fine way
to scoot around during the lot hot summer ahead of us.
