FIA race car; Category Competition Touring Car,
FIA Class CT6; eligible for Period F (1962–1965); in-date FIA homologation papers;
believed to be the only one of its type currently in the
UK
Here we
have a fascinating and extremely rare 1963 Opel Kadett A FIA race car,
originally built for competition in Sweden before later being campaigned in
Denmark, eventually arriving in the UK in 2023. A proper period
touring-car racer with genuine international
history, it represents a highly unusual opportunity for anyone interested in
historic FIA competition.
Since landing in the UK, the car has received
some remedial welding, bringing the shell back to a sound and usable state. It
would still benefit from further restoration and tidying, but crucially it comes
with in-date FIA homologation papers,
confirming it as a Category Competition Touring Car, FIA Class CT6, eligible for
Period F (1962–1965). This places it squarely
within one of the most desirable eras for historic touring-car grids, where unusual and
well-documented entries are always
welcomed.
The
car retains its original 1000cc engine, which fires readily into life and has
been driving on site for our photographs and video, sounding eager and
mechanically healthy. Included with the car is a spare gearbox and a selection
of mechanical parts, as pictured — a useful package for anyone intending to
return it to competitive use.
As a racing example, the Kadett A is extremely
rare, and this car is believed to be the only one of its type currently in the
UK. For anyone seeking something distinctive, eligible and full of character, it
represents an excellent opportunity to acquire a genuinely unusual entry into
FIA touring-car racing, with potential
suitability for events such as Goodwood, where individuality and period
correctness are highly prized.
Important note: The registration number
displayed on the car is not included in the sale and is not registered to the
vehicle in any way. It has been used purely for display purposes. The car has no
UK registration documents, having been used solely for
competition.
A
wonderfully unusual and appealing little racer with international history,
in-date FIA papers and huge
potential.
